3 thoughts for the weekend

I had some bacon yesterday for breakfast. As I did, I reflected on how much I love having bacon, eggs and tortillas for breakfast. In fact, the more I thought about it, the more I thought about how much I really just love bacon. So in tribute to breakfast yesterday, let me offer you three reasons why I love bacon:

  1. Bacon goes with almost anything: Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those, “let’s have bacon with watermelon” kind of guys, but bacon really does go with almost anything. Bacon is a great breakfast food, going well with eggs, waffles, pancakes, tortillas, toast, quiche, oatmeal and other breakfast staples. That’s a given. But breakfast goes well with lunch, too, on sandwiches, in soups, on top of a salad, with a burger and many other primary lunch meals. But it doesn’t stop there, as you can pile bacon on for dinner, too. Baked potatoes are better with bacon. Steaks are better with bacon (a bacon-wrapped fillet mignon is almost the perfect food!). Dinner salads are better with bacon. Macaroni is better with bacon. Seriously, almost everything is better with bacon. What’s your favorite food with bacon?
  2. Bacon is easy to fix: I’m not a foodie, and generally, I don’t enjoy spending time in the food-making process. But bacon isn’t hard to fix. You can bake it in the oven if you choose, or the preferred method of lazy non-cooks like me, is 5 minutes in a skillet on top of the stove. It doesn’t take long to fix up this overly flexible food, so you can access it almost any time you’re fixing food any way. Do you have a secret bacon fixing method?
  3. Bacon makes people happy: I’m not sure why this is true, but when you surprise someone with bacon on top of their meal, you’re guaranteed to add a little extra joy to their day. Seriously, just try it the next time you’re fixing a meal where you don’t normally add bacon — throw on a couple of slices, or crumble up a few pieces or lay a couple of hot sizzling bacon strips next to their plate and watch them smile. Bacon makes people happy. Do you have any good bacon stories to share?

    Thanks for the deep thought of the day Joe! haha:)
    I do love bacon but mostly for the salt and the sizzle I think. Not really feeling the whole bacon candy and bacon cupcake movement. But it does create a “wow, I need to buy that and try it” factor. 🙂

    Skillet on top of the stove? Pshaw. Obtain microwave bacon platter (has ridges for the grease to roll off) or microwaveable plate. Several layers of paper towel with bacon on top of said plate or platter and several more layers of paper towel on top of bacon. Cook for approx. one minute per slice depending on thickness of bacon. Dap grease off with paper towel. Leaves your stovetop grease-free.

    Bacon. It’s not just another food group anymore. It’s THE food group.
