2012…one day at a time!

Are you a New Year’s resolution type of person? I’m usually not. The failure rate for those is pretty impressive, and I fear my New Year’s resolutions would only contribute to that failure rate. However, I have had a few NYR in the past, and I’ve even experienced success. Two year’s ago I decided to not drink one sip of Coca-Cola for the first month of the year. It was tougher than I care to admit, but I managed and things went well. Giving up Coke for a month may not seem like much to you; it was like removing 9 of 10 pints of blood for me!

I’ve had a few health and writing goals over the years, but nothing too serious. Often, I prefer to make goals related to September because for student ministry, that’s when things kick in to high gear. School starts up, Friday night football games begin and life gets a little Hectilatious*. It’s a good time to reevaluate priorities and to set some goals related to personal discipline, in order to help keep focused in the chaos.

This year, however, is different. I’m starting 2012 with my friend, Gary Ryan Blair, and his 100-day challenge. Ok, I’ve never actually met Gary but I’ve heard his sweet, sultry voice enough times I feel I can call him a friend. My wife navigated this program in the past, and now it’s my turn. Problem is, I’m choosing to go public with this, so now there’s some group accountability on the line. This could get ugly. Fast.

What about you, do you have some New Year goals or resolutions? Tell us about them in comments section.

Well, 2012 has begun and today, January 2nd, is day 1 of my 100 day challenge. I’m going to try and blog each day of the 100 days and if your insomnia hasn’t been cured with this blog, feel free to read my 100-day challenge blog. I’m targeting goals in three main areas: 1. Growth for Overboard Ministries related to new ministry potential and other Overboard ventures; 2. Writing projects relating to both my books related particularly to offering other resources that go with the books; 3. Health goals related to my ever-expanding gut and lousy culinary habits.

Hope you’ll follow the journey on my other blog, and thanks for staying tuned in to Overboard Ministries in 2012. I don’t know where the journey is going, I just know it’s going to be a wild ride.

Go ahead and take the plunge — life is always better on the water!
